A geisha (or technically a Maiko).

I was incredibly lucky with this picture. There are only 200 geisha left in Japan and we just happened to be around during the half hour or so when the geikos and maikos are making their way to their appointments. They had their own aura to them, from another age so separate to the cars and busy streets around them.

There were quite a few people taking their pictures as they all walked by, ignoring everyone, so whenever one was in sight people snapped away crazily praying for a decent photos. I was rather embarrassed when a group of old Japanese men who were taking pictures there (see greippi's page for a picture of one of them!) asked to take photographs of me.. :S

I love her mischievious look! :)

a good one this is...

I'd love to see a geisha walking in manhattan or here in london around Bank... like a flower in a swamp...
the world has definately lost some of its charm... but this is good!

Yeah, I was really upset that cars were allowed down the old street the Geisha walk along! But still seeing them felt like being transported into a more cultured time :) Thank you very much for your compliment!

The slight blur doesn't bother me at all, because the most important part of the photo is crisp - her face. I really like how the silver ornament in her hair is in motion.. it gives the photo more life and accentuates her glare! :) Pusuja..!
